The Transition Age Youth (TAY) Program of Way Station is a time-limited goal-oriented program for young adults between the ages of 18 and 21. The program is designed to teach independent living skills in a supportive environment. The overall goal is to prepare the participants to move and be successful in a less restrictive environment.

The participants of the TAY Program live together in a residential setting in Frederick County. There are 8 beds, 6 of which are contracted with Carroll County and 2 with Frederick County. While residing in the TAY house, participants are expected to work, volunteer, enroll in some form of further education, and work on their skills in activities of daily living as well as social relationships.

Each participant in the TAY Program, along with the primary facilitator, set and review monthly goals which are broken down into short term objectives. The participant meets with the primary facilitator on a weekly basis to discuss and document progress as well as revise goals when necessary.

During the week, the participants attend the Day Program. While at the Day Program, participants continue to address issues related to understanding their mental illness in addition to developing the knowledge and skills necessary to live a more independent life, including finances and budgeting, daily living skills, personal relationships, anger management, and utilizing community resources. Participants can also access vocational services which can help in developing skills in seeking and maintaining employment.
