The National Education Center fulfills Way Station's mission of enhancing the field of behavior health and employment services through professional fieldwork, training, consultation, and research.

Students from more than 80 colleges and universities across the United States complete internships offered through the National Education Center. The National Education Center attracts student interns pursuing varying levels of education and representing a variety of professional disciplines, including:

        • Health Care Administration and Management
        • Law
        • Nursing
        • Occupational Therapy
        • Pastoral Counseling
        • Psychology
        • Social Work

The National Education Center's philosophy of fieldwork and education incorporates the following principles:

  • Training is interdisciplinary in which a variety of disciplines engage in treatment planning and intervention and in program analysis and development. Role delineation among disciplines is explored.
  • Students work within the full service delivery system. This is the best way to analyze, understand, and maximize the effectiveness of today's behavioral health care continuum.
  • Health care for individuals across age and developmental ranges is emphasized. Students explore new and creative strategies for delivering services throughout the region using a population-based approach.
