Way Station, in collaboration with the Howard County Office on Aging and the Rotary Club of Columbia, established the Loan Closet of Howard County, a free lending center for medical and rehabilitation equipment, in October 2004.

The Loan Closet serves as a clearinghouse for the temporary use of donated medical equipment and is available free of charge to all Howard County residents.

The Loan Closet provides the Howard County community with the following resources:

• Accepts donated medical equipment that is no longer needed by the owner
• Operates a center for receiving, maintaining, and processing equipment
• Lends equipment to residents in need of the equipment free of charge
• Provides delivery and pick-up of equipment
• Provides referrals to other community agencies as needed

The following medical and rehabilitation equipment is available through the Loan Closet:

• Bedside commodes
• Bedside (over bed) tables
• Canes
• Crutches
• Dressing sticks
• Elevated toilet seats
• Quad canes
• Reachers
• Shower benches/chairs
• Sock aids
• Tub transfer benches
• Toilet guard/safety rails
• Transfer boards
• Walkers
• Wheelchairs (manual only)

About the Way Station

Way Station believes in the promotion of health and community integration for all individuals with mental illness. With support from staff and occupational therapists working in the Loan Closet, Way Station members have the opportunity to develop job skills, improve social skills and to provide volunteer services to the community.

About the Howard County Office on Aging

The Howard County Office on Aging is part of Howard County Department of Citizen Services and is the principal agency that plans, advocates, develops and coordinates programs and services for senior citizens and their family members.
