Way Station offers day rehabilitation, community employment, and residential rehabilitation services that are specifically designed to meet the special needs of adults with co-occurring mental illness and developmental disabilities. When appropriate, the Day and Community Employment Programs will serve individuals with a sole diagnosis of a developmental disorder.

Pathways Day Program

Approved as a Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program by the Mental Health Administration and as a Deemed Status Provider by the Developmental Disabilities Administration, the Pathways Program complies with the applicable regulations and conditions of both administrations.

The Pathways Day Program provides participants with opportunities to learn about and develop skills in the areas of health and wellness, behavior management, daily living, coping strategies, interpersonal and social skills, employment preparation, and recreational and leisure activities.

Participants of the Pathways Program have access to Way Station's Day Rehabilitation Program and are engaged with appropriate supports in activities that are designed to facilitate learning, skill development, peer support, and progress toward individual personal goals. Such activities include work-oriented activities, educational and experiential groups, community volunteer activities, and recreational and leisure activities.

The Program provides staffing based on the needs of each individual. Individuals who require an intensive level of staffing may be engaged in activities offered by the Day Rehabilitation Program with staff support, activities in the community, or activities contained within the Pathways program space.

Services are offered six hours a day Monday through Friday. The Programs offer transportation to and from the program as well as breakfast, lunch, and snacks.

Community Employment Program

Way Station's Community Employment Program is approved as a Deemed Status Provider by the Developmental Disabilities Administration and complies with the appropriate regulations and conditions necessary to serve individuals with developmental disabilities.

Individuals with developmental disabilities have access to all of the services offered by Way Station's Community Employment Program.

Sojourn Residential Rehabilitation Program

Way Station offers a four-bed Residential Rehabilitation Program in Frederick County that is designed to meet the special needs of adults with co-occurring mental illnesses and developmental disabilities. The Program seeks to serve individuals who do not qualify for full Developmental Disabilities Administration funding and for whom the traditional Residential Rehabilitation Program do not provide sufficient structure. Individuals must meet the eligibility criteria established by the Maryland Public Mental Health System and require specialized services as a result of significant impairments and/or behavioral needs resulting from a co-occurring developmental disability.

The Program provides an enhanced staffing pattern with at least two staff persons scheduled during waking hours and one awake staff person during the night.

The service team, which includes a psychologist consultant, develops and implements a coordinated individual rehabilitation plan and a behavioral plan to ensure that each individual's mental health and developmental needs are met. The Program coordinates with other mental health and developmental disabilities providers to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated continuum of care.
